This is the second oldest structure
on the tour (1898). It also demonstrates the family’s ongoing efforts
to work toward a zero energy house. Their journey began quite some time ago
back when NREL was named the Solar Energy Research Institute. The project to
achieve zero energy demand is ongoing for all the family members.
The on-site wind turbine was installed
in late 2006, and will eventually provide as much as half of the homeowner's
energy needs!
